About the workshop:

How do we produce knowledge in science, and what role do scientists and technologies play in its production? This is the question that Federica Russo poses in her new book Techno-Scientific Practices. Central to Russo’s work is her claim that (real instead of ideal) scientists and technologies together co-produce knowledge in techno-scientific practices. This claim not only forces us to reinterpret some of the core notions in science (like knowledge, evidence, truth, model, experiment, scientist, causality), but challenges as well commonly held perceptions of scientific practice and research. In this workshop, we will discuss some of the implications that Russo’s work has for our own research.
The workshop is in hybrid format and takes place on the 31st of May, 2023. Besides hosting Federica Russo herself, the workshop will bring together a number of speakers from the fields of AI, biology, philosophy, and physics. Each of the speakers will link their current research to the themes discussed in the book. The workshop is meant to inspire fruitful discussions on the merits and critical application of Russo’s work in various (scientific) disciplines.
