Research in Philosophy

There are currently five professorships, and one non-tenure track junior professorship affiliated with our department. The research conducted by the professors and affiliated researchers in our department lies in contemporary analytic philosophy. This means that our primary focus is on philosophical problems rather than historical thinkers, and that we approach these problems with rigour and through careful argumentation. While the professorships in Germany are often divided into professorships in theoretical philosophy and in practical philosophy, many members of our department work across this divide.

Carolin Antos, junior professor of theoretical philosophy, works on problems in logic and the philosophy of mathematics.

Susanne Burri, tenure-track professor of practical philosophy, works on problems in normative ethics and political philosophy.

Dorothea Debus, professor of theoretical philosophy, works on problems in the philosophy of mind and in epistemology.

Leon Horsten, professor of theoretical philosophy, works on problems in metaphysics, epistemology, and the philosophy of mathematics.

Thomas Müller, professor of theoretical philosophy, works on problems in the philosophy of science and in action theory.

Jacob Rosenthal, professor of practical philosophy, works on problems in action theory, foundations of morality and probability.
